We offer property maintenance and landscape design and construction. We build decks and garden structures of all descriptions, as well as designing and building many perennial gardens and shrub borders. We have commercial maintenance contracts as far away as Kingston and Belleville but our main focus is Prince Edward County. We are a medium sized landscape company with two manager/owners and three employees at present.
The term 'dooryard' is a very county colloquial and generally describes the small flowerbed/herb garden adjacent to the kitchen in the side yard on the way to the barn. It was where the farmer's wife grew the herbs for kitchen use and any number of flowers for cutting. The vegetable gardens were much larger and farther from the house.
We meet with our clients, discuss their needs and wishes and after several meetings, come up with a hand or computer drawn design, course of action and a quotation for the work. Many people do not want to spend a lot of time doing maintenance, so we strive to make the gardens as low maintenance as possible by using bark or stone mulches. We live on 56 acres down at Point Petre where we are striving to be self-sufficient on our organic farm. We grow about 200 flats of perennials and annuals every spring for use in our commercial plantings and our own gardens. We also provide winter maintenance. We plow snow with two 3/4 ton plow trucks, a backhoe, and a tractor with a blower.
